Model H-CVAT Control Valve and Actuator Trainer

Purpose
The Control Valve and Actuator Trainer has been developed to provide students with hands-on training for valves, positioners, and actuators found in industry today. The students will learn the operation and servicing of globe, ball, and butterfly valves, and both pneumatic and electropneumatic positioners and actuators. This trainer comes complete with all of the necessary pneumatic and electronic power supplies, connectors, gauges, and regulators necessary to perform experiments utilizing the various valve assemblies.
Description

The Control Valve and Actuator Trainer consists of the following equipment:

Globe Valve Assembly
Globe Valve, Pneumatic actuator, Electropneumatic positioner with gauge, Electronic position transmitter, Power supply, Air regulator.
Butterfly Valve Assembly
4" Butterfly Valve with a fishtail disk, Pneumatic diaphragm actuator, Pneumatic positioner with gauges, bypass and air regulator, Current to pressure regulator.
V-Ball Valve Assembly
1-1/2" V-Ball Valve, Pneumatic piston actuator, Pneumatic positioner with gauges, Air regulator.
Pressure Regulator
2" pressure regulator with 3/4" NPT.
Panel Loader
2-gauge loading regulator with three-way changeover valve.

In addition to this equipment, this bench comes complete with the following ancillary equipment and instrumentation:
  • Air Compressor, 1.5 HP
  • Power Supply, 24V DC
  • Digital Ammeter
  • Pressure Gauges
  • Pressure Regulators
  • Machinist Vise
  • Valve stands
  • Air manifold with 2 ports
  • Circuit breaker
  • Neon pilot light (red)
  • On/off switches (2)
  • Pneumatic quick connect lines
  • HR-1S Socket Receptacles
  • Extra gaskets and diaphragms
  • Patch cords
  • Main air supply filter.

All equipment is mounted on or stored in the mobile bench. This bench is constructed of 14 gauge sheet metal with a tan texture finish and mounted on 4 swivel casters, 2 of which lock. The front of this bench has two doors with a key lock for security. Behind the door is the storage drawer for any loose parts and tools. The air compressor and its accessories are stored within this bench. The top of the bench is covered with an 1-3/4" laminated maple top. The back panel is constructed out of 12-gauge sheet metal and houses the instrumentation used on the bench. The overall dimensions of the unit are 72"W x 60"H x 30"D.

Topics Covered

  • The usage of instruction booklets covering installation, maintenance, programming and operation.
  • The principles of operation of valves, positioners, actuators and pressure regulators.
  • How to reverse actuator action.
  • When to use a positioner and how to bypass it.
  • To calibrate positioners, i.e., adjust the zero and span.
  • To characterize the flow response of a valve (valve plugs).
  • To explain the lapping of valve seats.

Pump and Valve System Trainer

Purpose
The Pump and Valve System Trainer is a custom designed unit built to meet the plant specific training needs of the industrial facility. The trainer includes the basic facilities necessary to pump water (or other fluids) in a loop together with the plant specific pump(s), valves and control configurations. Furthermore, all major components are flanged fitted which allows easy removal from the unit. This will enable the trainee to learn service procedures.
Description

The Pump and Valve System Trainer consists of the following components:
  • Centrifugal Pump, 5HP
  • Motorized Valve Operator
  • Globe Valve (2"):
  • Ball Valve (2") with Pneumatic Actuator
  • Butterfly Valve (2")
  • Gate Valves (1" and 2")
  • Safety Valve (1" x 1-1/2" connections)
  • Y-Strainer (2")
  • Pressure Gauge
  • Flowmeter
  • Differential Pressure Switch
